Nasi Kerabu Ayam Percik & Nyonya Laksa from Laksa Shack

Right after recovering from food poisoning, Superhero S actually cheated another round of food poisoning by successfully retaining her bowel even after downing a nice, big bowl of Nyonya Laksa from Laksa Shack, Mid Valley. Haha. :p

Yes, so here's the story...
The two superheroes flew over to Mid Valley to catch up on some yummylicious dinner after eating mostly bland food for a week when nursing Superhero S' diarrhea. So the both of us were in the mood to pamper our tummy with something that is definitely more provocative! *wink*

Since we haven't had Laksa Shack for more than a year (omg!), we decided, what the heck... just go for it lah! We kinda missed the hot and spicy food, and since the temptation was just too great to resist, we immediately flew into the restaurant and ordered our favourite foodies. Superhero W had a craving for rice, and ordered his Nasi Kerabu Ayam Percik (RM15.90) because he was reminiscing about his Mum's cooking back in Sabah.

Check out his large plate of nasi kerabu!
There's even an otak-otak as a side serving, and a small bowl of really really REALLY thick (and immensely flavourful) Sup Tulang. The omelette was atop his rice, and what's best about this dish is their chicken thigh serving! OMG... it's HUGE...!! Without hesitating, we dug into the rice while waiting for Superhero S' Nyonya Laksa (RM9.90).

And soonafter... the waiter brought her bowl of laksa...
The laksa kuah was really sinfully thick with the coconut milk and absolutely fragrant with all the herbs. Yummmmmy...!! If only it could have been given a stronger hint of spicyness, this bowl would've turned out much better. :p

For drinks, we decided to skip the usual soft drinks or sirap bandung thingee and went for their Cendol. Their serving of cendol is indeed very very generous with a beautiful mountain of shredded ice with all the sweet sweet sugar syrup. The best thing was, it didn't felt anything like 'drinking' a big bowl of sugar syrup at all! Haha. Too bad the ingredients weren't that plentiful...

All in all, we had a great time digging into our delicious dinner at Laksa Shack. Nice ambience, nice food... Hopefully it won't be another year before we indulge in the yummy food here again! *grins*

A day of Nasi Lemak and Egg Tarts...

Superhero W flew back home from Sabah after the first week of Raya celebrations and his Superhero Mum made double sure that he won't be starved when he gets back to KL. Haha. She actually packed a whole lot of home-cooked Nasi Lemak (one of his mum's signature dishes!), enough for 2-3 persons for Superhero W. *grins*

Superhero W's 2 BIG balls...

Some prawns for Superhero W...

...don't play play! Filled with mother's love!

And on the very same day, Superhero S, not knowing that Superhero W is already carrying onboard a whole lot of Nasi Lemak with him, actually bought a BIG packet of Nasi Lemak from the pasar pagi around the Jalan Ara, Bangsar Village area for breakfast. Here's a peek...

Priced at RM2 for the Nasi Lemak Biasa and an additional RM0.50 for the kangkung, this is one super huge pack of hot hot nasi lemak! Now if only the sambal could've been a little bit more spicy, this could've been one of the best Nasi Lemaks I've had to date! :p

Along with the Nasi Lemak Marathon, Superhero S also had a friend bought her 2 cute cute Egg Tarts, which is very very famous and highly recommended by the friends from this nearby restaurant in Bangsar Village area, Restoran Lucky Garden. Priced at RM1.20 per piece, this is one superb piece of delightful bite. OOOHHHHHH................................

Easily one of the BEST egg tarts I've eaten. Its pastry is beautifully thin and layered, and they are really really generous with the egg! Much like a larger (and more worth it!) version of the Canton-i Egg Tart... Yummmmmmmmm!! Haha. :p

And this concludes a day of Nasi Lemak and 2 beautiful Egg Tarts which had no doubt effectively screwed up our cholesterol level for the day. Haha. Never mind, eat first, think later...! :p

The Best Ramadhan Bazaar of them all...Bangi

After feasting at the great variety of traditional Malay foodie at the Ramadhan Bazaar at Serdang, the two superheroes were off to satisfy their hunger with probably is the best bazaar of them all... Bangi! :p

The Ramadhan Bazaar here is definitely the most elaborate that I've seen so far, and one that certainly offers a ridiculously wide range of foodie choices. Too bad we couldn't actually take a picture of the entire setting because it was really REALLY crowded and the place was really huge anyway. Situated just 5-10 minutes away from the Kajang tol, this massive spread is quite accessible to the crowd.

We honestly tried to stay sane and not go wacko and start buying every foodie that looks delicious, but... alas, mind over matter seem to have failed! Haha. I guess we ended up buying even more than we did back in Serdang. OMG... After forking out close to RM20 (yet again!), we came home with...

The BEST of the lot, the brilliant Murtabak Jala (a superb combination of Roti Jala and Murtabak!) OMG... It's super delicious, especially when topped with their thick curry kuah! *drooling...*

Traditional Lemang (Glutinous rice cooked in bamboo) and Rendang Daging. By far, this is honestly THE BEST lemang and rendang that we've eaten in our lives. The rice was so soft, no hard edges, very nicely cooked over the fire. As for the rendang, it was certainly very very rich and thick with the perfect hint of spicyness and santan to it. We love it!

And finally, the must-have, Pari Bakar (Baked Sting Ray)...

For snacks, we have...

Giant Curry Puffs... Yeah, the shop actually named these curry puffs, "giant" because of their unconventionally huge size as compared to the usual karipaps. Crispy on the outside, soft and steaming hot on the inside. Truly reminds me of IKEA's curry puffs! Haha. :p

Some Otak-Otak (Brains) Haha.

And a nice big packful of Cendol drink. Haha. Never felt better downing a nice load of cold sweet drink during the fasting month!

And if that wasn't enough to feed us two superheroes, the best thing was, Superhero S had actually cooked a nice big wokful of Spicy Fried Beehoon in advance intended to deter us from overbuying at the bazaar. And now... we ended up with food for at least 4 people! *faints*

For the first time, my stomach really couldn't take it anymore... but not before wolfing down every single bit of the foodie! Haha. Personally speaking, this is definitely the best bazaar of them all. No doubt about it. Great selection of foodie choices and relatively spacious walkway that makes it easier for us to walk up and down. Can't wait to fly over there just one more time before the month comes to an end! *excited*

Ramadhan Bazaar at Serdang

The best thing about the fasting month for the two superheroes is naturally.... the (cheap) FOOD! Haha. With a whole month to feast on all the bazaars mushrooming around the city, this is indeed a heavenly month for the both of us. But despite the many bazaars around, we found that only a handful of bazaars are actually worth going. *grins*

And one of them... is the Ramadhan Bazaar at Serdang! Used to be Superhero S' old hangout place, the bazaar here is certainly one of the more elaborate ones to serve an amazing variety of delicious traditional Malay foodie, all centred in one location! Haha. :p

With human traffic jam forming inside this super-packed bazaar, it's really difficult to walk around freely and taking your time in deciding what foodie you want. So naturally, the best solution is to go round the bazaar for one time, get a quick look at what interests you... and then decide. As most of the stalls do sell pretty much the same foodie and there could probably be 10 stalls selling murtabak alone, you'll want to get the murtabak that not only looks good, but is selling like hot cakes as well. So look for the crowd!

After taking our pick and forking out close to RM20, we bought...

LOTSA foodie!!! *super grin*

For main course, we have...

Our must-have, Murtabak Ayam and Daging...

Superhero S' favourite Roti Jala...

Chicken Rice with super big chicken for Superhero S...

and...Chicken Rice with super big chicken for Superhero W

The above are definitely our all-time favourites... And as there are main course, they must be some snacks to finish off a fulfilling and most satisfying meal!

Superhero W's must-have curry puffs, be it sardine, chicken or potatoes!

Some Cucur Udang...

And of course, a big packful of coconut drink to quench the thirst!

But remember, just in case you've not been to bazaars, try not to bring your wallet or purse along and instead, just chuck small notes into your pockets. With the chaotic (and hungry!) crowd, it's better not burden the stall owners with large notes and end up having to wait for your change.

Next up, the best Ramadhan Bazaar of them all....!

Restoran Kembangan Paradise at Seri Kembangan

Since the day Superhero S actually started diversifying her talents (ahem...) into cooking, the two superheroes found their interest in dining over in Malay foodie restaurants slowly dwindling. Oh well, the portion of home-cooked food always seems to win me over you see. For the price that we're going to fork out when dining out, I'd prefer to cook the same dishes for the same price (if not lower) but with a portion to feed a family of superheroes! Haha. :p

However, sometime ago, while the two superheroes were in the Seri Kembangan area, we returned to one of the restaurants we used to frequent during the times when Superhero S was still staying there. Restoran Kembangan Paradise at Seri Kembangan had been one of our old favourites because they serve the best keropok lekor around. Not sure about now though, because on the day we went, the shop was closed and only the main restaurant was open.

Nicely decorated with little lights creating a bright outlined silhouette in the dark, this restaurant is built with a kampung style theme, complete with straw attap roof and "walls". With the ability to accommodate a whole lot of diners, it's no wonder this place strikes as a favourite among the people here.

We decided to order fried rice, and Superhero W ordered Nasi Goreng USA while Superhero S went for the Nasi Goreng Ayam Kunyit. Yes, this was the place that inspired my Ayam Masak Kunyit just a few posts back. It was after this visit that I decided to try my hands at the chicky dish, with consultation from Superhero W. Haha.

Here are our drinks, Iced Nescafe for Superhero W... and plain ol' Teh 'o' Ais Limau for Superhero S. Sorry for the poor picture quality that you're going to experience throughout this post. The place here seem to be enveloped with yellow lighting which makes my... ahem... camera phone very difficult to use. *blushing*

The foodie finally arrived, and here's the Nasi Goreng USA..

...and the Nasi Goreng Ayam Kunyit

As an additional order, we decided to ask for their Tom Yam Cendawan just for a little kick! Haha.

And what a kick it turned out to be... Super spicy with tons of abalone mushrooms, just too bad that the soup wasn't thick enough to bring out the real ooOMph! But it's still a pretty good tom yam to go with our fried rice. *grins*

Both fried rice was good, though as expected, the serving for the dishes weren't particularly impressive. The meat portion was little (probably due to the fact that I usually serve up a big big portion at home) but the fried rice was really tasty. Simple chinese fried rice with bits of mixed vegetables but very flavourful. Man, how to these people do it?? How come my fried rice never turn out like this? Haha. :p

But anyhow, the bill came close to RM20, but this is probably going to be a once in a blue moon affair as I still prefer home-cooking to dining out on regular Malay foodie. But it's still a refreshing change, and the food still maintained its standards here. It's still worth a visit... or two! :p

Pandan Flavoured Mantou with Chicken Curry

While grocery shopping at Tesco the other day, the two superheroes decided to pick up this interesting item which hasn't made onto their menu just yet. Superhero S, upon recalling how Superhero Mom used to cook chicken curry as a dip dip for the super delicious mantou, decided to pick up the Pandan Flavoured one. C'mon, it's either the plain one, the chocolate one or this! Haha.

And so, we happily brought home our mantou which came in a pack of eight. It was frozen rock solid (what'd I expect? It's frozen food what?! Haha) and I decided to speed things up by immediately putting it into my traditional "steamer"... *grins*

Steam for 10-15 minutes and my mantou has now transformed to become hot, hot steaming pandan mantous! Smells terrific with the pandan flavour totally filling up the room. Ahhh.......!

Oh, at the same time, while waiting for the mantous to steam, I was already halfway into cooking my curry chicken. Decided to use those ready-packed curry formulas to save time since the both of us were in hungry mode already! Haha.

And it's all done... a plate of hot, fluffy mantou with 2 bowls of thick chicken curry - one for Superhero W, one for me! That way, we don't have to fight for the curry and the chicken. :p

Tore out a small piece of the mantou, and proceed to dip dip in the hot hot chicken curry. Super kick I tell you... Haha. Hot mantou, combined with hot and spicy curry. Definitely one of the best alternative meals besides the usual rice and fried noodles. And we couldn't even finish up the eight mantous, to think that they are actually quite small in size, or so we initially thought!

In the end, we had 2 mantous to spare as we could only manage 3 mantous per person. Haha. But it was a very filling meal indeed. Not to mention, very satisfying as well! Oh, let's do it again! Haha. :p

Ayam Masak Kunyit, a walk down memory lane...

When Superhero S was a little girl with cute pigtails waaaaaaay back in the 90s, she used to take tiny pieces of special fried chicky almost during every recess time. She was drawn to its yellowish colour and nice, crispy texture. Of course during that time, it hadn't occurred to her that the yellowish colour was attributed to the turmeric or kunyit powder used. All she remembered was, it was very very fragrant...

But after growing out of her pigtails, she left memories of the delicious yellow chicken behind, until the day she saw Superhero W ordering this familiar yellow chicken. The comforting sense of familiarity immediately came flooding back to her senses. OH my yellow chicken... how I have missed you!

So it was only then did she knew what she has been eating all the while during primary school was... Ayam Masak Kunyit. Haha. Since Superhero W's Mom was a master chef of home-cooked Malay foodie, she managed to impart some knowledge to Superhero W and he told me briefly how he used to see his mother doing the chicky dish. And so, a few days back, I finally experimented with my first Ayam Masak Kunyit...

This is my chicky being marinated with turmeric powder, salt and pepper. Unfortunately, I didn't know that turmeric powder actually stains! And so, I ended up with yellowish hands and a yellowish bowl. Haha. :p

Stored the marinated chicky in the fridge to let the flavours set in. After probably an hour or so, I decided that it's time to fry the chickys because I was getting really excited (and hungry!). Heat up the oil on low fire till it's really hot, and slowly dump in the yellow chicks. Fry till it's turns gold... and when you think the chicky is done, time to rescue the chicky and take them all out.

Oh, here are my babies...

And to complement my Ayam Masak Kunyit, there's the Simple Fried Cabbage and Baked Beans with Eggs (Yes, I was lazy...) *blushing*

But then, I managed to boil some ABC soup as well... You see, there's chicken, beans, eggs, vegetables and soup. Not bad what... :p

I'm crawling out...

I was so happy when the Ayam Masak Kunyit turned out to be fantastic! Superhero W even complimented that it tasted even better than those sold outside. Ahem...

beautiful...

The chicken is super powered with the turmeric taste, and it's really tender and juicy on the inside. Hey, I'm a pro when it comes to frying chicks, okay! *super grin*

Will definitely make this turmeric dish as one of our staple dishes in times to come... Haha.

Uncle Lim's at Sunway Pyramid

A couple of weeks back, the two superheroes found themselves flying over to Sunway Pyramid. Since the big renovation of the mall and the highways began a long time ago, we've actually not been there again. And this is actually the first time we're in the Pyramid since the new wing opened. I must say, it's not bad indeed...! Haha. I think we're starting to likey likey this place again... :p

For every place we go, of course there will be a makan-ing session as always. Haha. And so, we decided to head over to Uncle Lim's for a light brunch, or so we initially thought. Located near the entrance of the Pyramid, no prizes for guessing why we opted for this 'kopitiam'. Being lazy superheroes, we couldn't bear to walk through the entire Pyramid to hunt for foodie and hence, settled for the nearest! Haha. *grins*

We've tried Uncle Lim's before this, and this is just a revisiting since Superhero W has not tried this outlet before. I have always found Uncle Lim's to be a better option that the now-horrible, Old Town Kopitiam. Yuck!

And so, for our light brunch, Superhero W decided to order his favourite Nasi Lemak...

...while Superhero S went for her ultimate favourite, their super big bowl Porridge. *wink wink*

The portion is still as big as ever. Unlike the disgusting Old Town. Superhero W's Nasi Lemak tasted really delicious, with a generous serving of sambal and a big piece of rendang chicken. And of course there's the usual culprits - fried anchovies and peanuts, cucumber slices and a boiled egg, halved. I could really see Superhero W enjoying his big plate of nasi lemak this time around, as compared to the very pathetic Nasi Lemak at Old Town. For RM7.90, it's pretty worth it!

As for Superhero S' big bowl of Porridge, it's still as good as ever. Topped with some yau char kwai, this makes a truly satisfying meal. The serving is actually big enough for two, and with lots of chicky bits inside, I wouldn't mind forking out RM7.90 for this baby. Haha. :p

And we figure, since we're in a 'kopitiam' already, sure must order some half-boiled eggs ritey? Haha. And so we did!

Their half-boiled eggs turned out really beautifully done. Perfect, I would say. Not too cooked, not too raw. OH, just look at the bright yellow! *drooling...* Haha. Simply irresistible!

For drinks, one Iced Milo for Superhero W and Iced Barley for Superhero S... :p

After downing all the delicious foodie, this is seriously not a light brunch! Haha. I'd say, the standards here still maintained, and we surely wouldn't mind coming back here again... and again! But if we were to return to Sunway Pyramid in search of more foodie, I suppose we should try out something else because I know that this mall is also a land of good food, just like the Curve! :p
