Chicken Rice Combo at KFC

One beautiful weekday, the two superheroes decided to fly over to the KFC at Kuchai Lama for some finger lickin' good bites. After a relatively long interval since our last visit here, we're both seriously drooling over the prospects of chewing into some sinful fried chickens! Haha. :p

Since we've already pretty much banned McDonald's due to it's massive price increase (crazy bloodsucker McD!), lunch at KFC suddenly seem like a much brighter choice. Relieved that the price of the foodie here in KFC isn't as ridiculous as McD's, we decided to get a little adventurous and tried out one of their new items on the menu.

Presenting... the Chicken Rice Combo at KFC!

Haha. But on the other hand, to play it safe just in case this chicky rice combo isn't as delectable as it looked, Superhero S decided to order Snack Plate as a back-up routine.

So, now if you were to ask me how the chicky rice fared, I would say it's actually not too bad. Though the rice is definitely not as fragrant as my subsequent attempts at cooking my own chicky rice (after adding the miracle ingredient, butter... all thanks to a tip by Paris! :p) it still complements the KFC fried chickys pretty well.

The soup is naturally laden with MSG, but the fried fish balls in halves are a nice addition. Superhero W actually kinda liked the soup. Haha.

The combo, priced at RM10+ after tax, came with a soft drink. And it was then that we'd realized that their cups have actually shrunk! In place of those usual large, thick paper cups are thin, plastic cups that are smaller in size. Well, during times like these when everything either gets ridiculously expensive or shrunk in proportions, it's pretty expected really.

Overall, we like the Chicken Rice Combo and definitely wouldn't mind going for it again. After all, the difference between the Snack Plate and the combo is just the chicken rice and the soup! The fried chicky is still the same! You can't go wrong with KFC's standard fried chicken. Haha. :p

The effect of eating KFC in the morning

On one crazy weekend, the two superheroes planned to use their soon-to-be-expiring McDonald's coupons at McDonald's Kuchai Lama. :p

So, we actually drove all the way from Superhero S's home to Kuchai Lama, which is just like a 10-minute drive away. We were in onother one of our infamous rush hour drives when the time is already showing 10.50 a.m. and we're just getting there, not exactly there yet!

We wanted to make it real badly for McD's breakfast at that point. Faster tekan minyak!!! Oh wait wait, so how did a drive to McD finally ended up at KFC? Haha. We actually made it to McD on the dot at 11.00 a.m. (dramatic!) but somehow, the McD people figured that Superhero W is too fat to eat McD and changed the breakkie menu to the regular one immediately.

Evil...
Haha. We were going there for their Hotcakes really. Missed it since we had it at LCCT sometime ago. OH Hotcakes!!!! Since we didn't bring the free coupons for the regular meals, no buy 1 Free 1 loh. Dejected, we decided to fly to the KFC just down the road and took revenge on the poor chickens there. *evil grin*

So, just as soon as KFC too changed their menu to their regular chicky menu, Superhero W ordered their Dinner plate for his breakfast (kinda ironic huh? Having DINNER plate for breakfast?! Haha) while Superhero S settled for the Snack plate. Both hot and spicy!

Seriously, both superheroes have never had KFC chicky so early in their lives before. Imagine having to stomach HOT, freshly made KFC chicky when your stomach has in fact just woken up as well. Haha. Dunno our super tummies can stomach the chickys or not! :p

This is our breakfast...

And you know what? We actually enjoyed whacking up the fried chickys actually! So crispy, hot & spicy! OHH...Haha... Not bad wor. I didn't thought my tummy can accept such sinful foodie early in the morning but it actually did!

..

..

..

And Superhero S is now down with a sickening sore throat. *sob... sob...*
I hate sore throat!!!! I promise to be a good good girl from now on and never touch KFC chickys so early in the morning again... and also the Mee Goreng Mamak. Haha. A classic case of "eat first, think later". *sigh*

KFC breakfast falls flat against McDonalds

Seriously, we don't believe that the KFC breakfast could fare better than McD's. Though we're fans of both McD and KFC, but for the breakfast? Hmmm... So on one early Saturday morning, we decided to set off to KFC @ Kuchai Lama to fulfill our KFC Challenge Episode 4 : to take a bite off their KFC breakfast. :p

We have a love affair with McD's breakfast menu, so we're rather cynical about KFC's breakfast menu actually. But after reading 2.0 Silent Whisper saying that KFC breakfast is not that bad, that the KFC Egg Wrap is good, we trust you buddy! Blogger's trust! With the recommendation buried in our thoughts, we drove to the big big KFC at Kuchai Lama which sits just right next to Pizza Hut in the same building.

As soon as we placed our orders for 2 sets of KFC Egg Wraps, we kinda had the whole KFC for ourselves. Nice place, really... but it's a little bit... erm...you see for yourself. Because this is what we saw when we turn to our right...

And to our left...

WAH!!!! Nobody wan arrrr???!!! Either KFC has such bad reputation for its KFC breakfast or the marketing for the KFC breakfast is waaaaaaaaay below horrible. Due to the cold response from customers, the staff there didn't even bothered making anything from the menu in advance. So we gotta wait for our food to arrive...

Food came kinda quick actually, which is niceeeee. First impression of the Egg Wrap? Wah... looks a whole lot smaller than the one we saw over at Silent Whisperer's post. But the Egg Wrap is very freshly made, and it came to our hands steaming HOT... Oh yeah... Check it out...

Lookin' good? Haha... It tastes good too! The Egg Wrap is actually this really thin bread ala popiah (which KFC has actually used before in their menu on some items that never made it to the regular menu), used to wrap around the chicken meat that are all shaped like rods, some eggs, some lettuce... and oh, I can see a dash of black pepper, and of course... the lifesavers, my favourite mayonnaise and cheese!

All sets come with a choice of either coffee or tea. Superhero W took the coffee, which is labelled to be Arabian coffee, while Superhero S took the tea...which is not Boh, not Lipton, not Twinnings, but something else which I cannot recall (its a black tea :) ). The tea is more thick, not to mention more bitter than McD's... But one thing we noticed, KFC's packaging of the cups look sooooo much better than McD's cups! :p

The verdict? The KFC Egg Wrap is really good. It's worth a try. But it's not something we would want to have on a regular basis, because with a steep price of RM7+, it's actually kinda expensive. We can have a healthier meal at Subway's with only RM6.

Or even our all-time fav McD breakfast too...

So, is KFC breakfast better than McD's? We won't say it's better, but we can safely say that McD's menu for its breakfast definitely wins hands-down. KFC needs to improve on its breakfast menu because we don't think it's sufficient to survive only on the Egg Wrap... which is the only thing we'll eat because the other sets on the menu are not worth mentioning. :p

Bad Service at KFC Berjaya Times Square ...

Okay. In Episode 3 of the two superheroes' KFC Challenge, we arrived at KFC @ Berjaya Times Square to a dizzying late lunch hour crowd on a weekday to check out the KFC there!

Many many people. Slow slow service. Dunno why but the guy over the counter in our line seem to be working in slow-mo and he seem kinda uncertain of the orders and many things. From the looks of it, he doesn't seem like a new guy at all. Maybe late night watching xxx movies? :p

Okay, we queued and we ordered our usual 2 snack plates (hot & spicy) and 1 large cheezy wedges. I've never seen such a CHEEZY cheezy wedges before. Salute! The cheese and mayo were layer and layers over the wedges! WOW.

The chicky was okay too. Quality's pretty good. Hot and crispy! Thumbs up! But thumbs down for the service and management though. The tables were very messy and not looked after. There were leftover food everywhere, even on the floor. Guess it must've been a messy lunch hour eh... But no matter what, they should've cleaned it up. It's not good for us customers. *shakes head

KFC Challenge @ The Mines..!!

The two superheroes continue their KFC Challenge "Search for good KFCs" with a visit to the Mines Shopping Fair!

Okay, we know the Mines isn't exactly a good place to start for a KFC search but well, what the heck..we initially went for the Domino's Pizza there but...

Damn! Our Domino's is no longer there! They closed down and their space has been taken over by none other than our favourite Kolonel!

This country really love their KFCs I tell you...

The KFC outlets all seem to be getting bigger & bigger each time! :p

Okay..so, we went for KFC and ordered our regular stuff - 2 snack plates (spicy) and cheezy wedges! Again, we weren't exactly putting in any hope because we really didn't quite like The Mines itself...

But yet again...the place has actually proven us wrong! The KFC is pretty good actually...hot & crispy!! Wow.....! We were genuinely surprised you know... All the UPM students nearby must have given this outlet a huge boost in business.. :p

So, what can I say?

"Where are those cold, stale chickys when you're looking for them???"Hehe.. :p

KFC @ The Mines - accomplished!

KFC Challenge @ Ampang Park

The two superheroes flew to the KFC @ Ampang Park for Episode 1 of our KFC Challenge "Search for Good KFCs"!! (Oh yeah......!!)

Well, it was our first time there really. No hopes that we would get good KFC, since that outlet is rather old already. But since it was just part of the challenge, and for the fact that we've spent a whole day comforting out tummies to get ready for any cold, stale KFC, we had to do this! And since Ampang Park is also the home to our fav McD outlet, the KFC there shouldn't be too bad I suppose! :p

We ordered our usual snack plates (spicy) and cheezy wedges. Hey hey hey, surprisingly...the KFC there is rather good! Crispy and hot! Ok what...phew! Hehe. Thank god for our tummies...

And maybe the fact that it was lunch hour plays a key role too! :p

KFC @ Ampang Park -- ACCOMPLISHED!

Next....! :p

Our KFC Challenge - The Search is ON for GOOD KFCs!!

Since the two superheroes love KFC a lot (don't worry, they don't eat it like everyday because it's not healthy to do that...! :p), and having received heated response from our readers or fellow bloggers on KFC, we have decided to go for our very own, KFC Challenge "The Search for Good KFCs"!! Haha. Oh yeah...

But before we begin, the two superheroes would like to remind those whose stomachs are untrained professionally for these kind of heavy task, to never copy this at home. :p

But seriously, we are NOT promoting KFC but rather us being superheroes, we would rather sacrifice ourselves to find the good KFC outlets so that you do not have to eat cold, stale KFCs! (*looks up towards the sky, nobly)

This being a huge task and for the fact that we don't live on KFCs every day, this challenge will span over an undecided period of time. But no matter what, regardless of the obstacles we face or the number of cold, lousy KFCs we have to swallow;

"We, the TWO SUPERHEROES pledge to bring you good / bad reviews from as many KFC outlets as we can experiment over time...!"

Stay tuned for more news from our KFC Challenge "The Search for Good KFCs"! :p

Kenny Rogers vs. KFC

Wah..this is tough!
Superhero W is a chicky fan, so this means that he likes all kinds of chicken meals (I'm not kidding!) but Superhero S has her moods (sometimes she likes it, but sometimes she can turn all vegetarian or all fishy)

We both love Kenny Rogers and KFC, but we would only eat either of them on very different occasions. When the two superheroes are feeling a little more "light & easy" , we go for our fav, more healthy Kenny Rogers. But when we're feeling a little "wild & mad" , we go dig in our sinful fried chickys!

Well, just the other day, the two superheroes just had their Kenny Rogers with one of Superhero S's close friend, Serine at Kenny Rogers Roasters MidValley. Service was near-sucky but thank god the food was okay. The two superheroes share identical taste buds and ordered Kenny's Quarter Meal (Black Pepper with extra sauce) and 3 side dishes : mac & cheese, coleslaw and the potato with the olive oil thing (forgot what it's called); while Serine ordered just mac & cheese (she's a sucker with cheese!)

The conclusion?
The food was good.
But the service was bad. Tsk tsk tsk.
**Kenny Rogers should start hiring more experienced ppl rather than banking in on those younglings to serve their customers. Shame on you!

p/s : Superhero W - actually, before I went back to Sabah two weeks ago, we planned to eat Kenny Rogers ( related post ).. But because of our cute, little baby3 wanted to eat McD breakfast at the LCCT Airport, we have to postpone it until now. :D

Don't go to these KFC outlets!!!

Well, don't get us wrong. The two superheroes are not anti-KFC people.
We are fans of Kentucky Fried Chicken, our finger lickin' good chickys!

A couple of posts ago, Superhero S wrote about KFC ("We ate KFC until we got sick! (Wah...)") and the two superheroes were quite surprised by the not-so-positive response we've got. So, to be fair, we are here to give you our side of the story behind KFC.
Melvin commented that KFC has lost its quality control. Well, I have to agree with you on that one, which is why I've decided to tell the rest of the world, "Don't go to these KFC outlets!!!"
But which outlets?
Okay, good question!

Well, Ting once told us that only certain KFC outlets serve you good quality chickys. Very true! Ever since a few encounters with lousy KFC chickys from certain outlets, we nearly gave up on KFC until he told us these 2 rules about eating KFC which is very very VERY true!

Rule #1 : Eat only at KFC outlets which stand on their own. Try to avoid eating KFCs located within shopping malls or along a stretch of shoplots. E.g., KFC near University Malaya (hey, we don't call this our fav joint for nothing, ok? The truth is, the two superheroes will only eat KFC from this particular outlet and try to avoid the others) or even the KFC right after the Sungai Besi Tol Plaza (the one with Dunkin' Donuts as their neighbour)

Rule #2 : Don't eat KFC during weird hours in the day. Eat them during hot hours when they would keep restocking their KFCs and selling them off immediately. That way, you will always have fresh, hot KFCs!

Ever since we adopted these golden rules, our makan-makan adventures at KFC have always been superb!
*Superhero S is very very particular abt her food as mentioned much earlier on in this blog. So, she insists on eating only quality chickys!
Say no to lousy, cold KFCs!

We ate KFC until we got sick! (Wah...)

Superhero W wrote a few posts ago about KFC rite..that reminds me of a story about Superhero W, Superhero S & Baby3 not too long ago...

*flashes back in time...

Not too long ago, the two superheroes were coaxed by Baby3 to visit KFC (he calls the Kolonel, his "uncle") on a late late weekday nite at the 24-hour KFC near University Malaya (our fav branch! drools...) So we ordered our regular 2 snack plates (2 pieces of spicy chicken) and of course the large cheezy wedges (yum yum yum...!)

The next day, the two superheroes received an extremely good news and decided to treat their benefactors, Uncle Ting and Auntie Soo (as Baby3 calls our close friends) Ting's favourite food, which is no other than KFC!!! haha. Let me tell you la, this guy really really REALLY loves KFC. People would pay to watch him gobble down the bucket of KFC! KFC should really get Ting for their commercials la. After watching him taking bites off his KFC, I tell you la..you will surely be rushing to your nearest KFC to get those chickens! He makes chicken breast look so delicious! haha

So, we ordered a variety bucket, a black pepper chicken meal (a promotional item at that time) and 2 large cheezy wedges!!!! Oh! Oh! Oh! (melts...)

And after two nights of KFC in a row, the two superheroes got sick! Not for a day or two but for a good whole month! Wah! (Shakes head)

But we're okay now, so don't worry! So KFC, anyone? hehe.

What? KFC? hurm...

When superhero W woke up from sleeping just now ( around late evening ), suddenly I smelled something familiar.. hehe.. After eating so much foods within 3 hours before I slept ( after ate 2 nasi minyak meals ), I am shocked my brother bought one KFC bucket for dinner.. fuh..

I dont know how to react to this dinner meal :D.. hahaha.. i can said that KFC is one of superhero S and our baby3 like the most :D .. hurm, but in this kind of situation, I think I have to reject it.. but ohhh .. hoooo... ohhh .. I CANT.. hehehe .. let see.. I was quite late already because they finished the thigh part and no chicken wing, there were breast only.. hurm.. dont care la.. eat only :D

hehehe.. actually KFC is our all time favorites because of its unique recipe.. :D I think I need to wait for superhero S to give some comments about KFC.. she has more experience rather than me.. haha.. well, I end my day with Kentucky Fried Chicken and a SMILE ..
