Restaurant Hao Wei Dao at Taman Desa

Thanks to our dear Y who reviewed this restaurant's other outlet at Ara Damansara, the two superheroes decided to fly over to their Taman Desa outlet just a couple of days ago to try out Y's recommendation! Haha. We trust you, Y! *grins*

And so, on a beautiful afternoon, we drove there and it must've been one of our lucky day... because we actually found a beautiful parking space in this area that is notorious for double parking due to the critically insufficient parking spaces. Phew! Nice one... Haha.

As it was close to lunch time, the restaurant was starting to get crowded. Superhero S actually buzzed her sister, Winnie before this to ask about the restaurant since it's located adjacent to her office. Sis said that the restaurant is actually quite similar to those HK chain outlets a la Kim Gary or Wong Kok.



A quick glance at the menu does in fact confirm sis' mention that it is quite like a HK style restaurant with all the different toasts, noodles and such. After having decided what we both wanted, we immediately placed our orders.




The ambience is quite cosy and comfortable really. Reasonable space in between seats, and it's also quite airy and well-lit. Not bad.




For drinks, Superhero S ordered Honey Lime while Superhero W ordered Iced Coffee. Apparently, the Honey Lime wasn't exactly like what I would expect from a normal Honey Lime. They actually gave me "Kat Chai Shin Mui" (in Cantonese), which is actually that asam drink that I know my Superhero Mum would love. Well, strange but... it's still good for my throat, according to Superhero W.

And then our meals arrived... Superhero S ordered their signature Spaghetti Carbonara, and here's a look at it...




Nice?? Haha. OMG... I'm sure it's going to taste as good as it looks! Very rich and creamy, and they are ridiculously generous with the ham slices (porky alert!) and mushroom. OH! Perfect! I never liked my Spaghetti Carbonara to be those dry version and since this is the "wet" one, it suited me perfectly! However, a word of warning though... too much of this can be a little overwhelming. Haha. The portion's pretty big too. *drools....!*




Superhero W's Thai Fried Rice arrived soonafter. Our first impression of the dish wasn't really good, I have to admit. C'mon, I mean... how do you expect us to react when we see something like this?




Looks plain huh. Could see from Superhero W's facial expression that he's a little disappointed. Haha. Poor thing. So I decided to take a spoonful of his fried rice and try it out (and pray that it doesn't taste as bad as it looks!). And furthermore, the portion looks so little. Surely it will not be enough for him.

To my amazement, this simple plate of Fried Rice turns out to be quite special! I took a mouthful of it, and the first few seconds after putting it into your mouth and chew on it, it didn't taste any significantly different from any normal fried rice...




But as I started chewing more, I could taste the fragrance from the rice and the subtle spicyness from the chilli. Wow...very special indeed! The true taste of the fried rice actually comes right after you've started chewing on it for a while.

All in all, the food's pretty good here I would say, but I would still root for Boon Boon Cafe's servings as they are much more generous there. But whatever it is, we'll most probably still be coming back for more of the foodie here as there's quite a lot left to sample from its menu! Haha.

Ipoh Old Town Restaurant at Taman Danau Desa

* This place is now known as "The Colonial". A change of name, but apparently the menu still sticks and the same goes to the entire restaurant crew.


After having condemned the original Old Town White Coffee Kopitiam all across Malaysia, the two superheroes had actually given up hope on such "coffee shops". Nothing but over-rated foodie and sucky service. Everything's gone down the drain for Ipoh Old Town Kopitiam, seriously. *sigh*

BUT... Though it may have been very unfortunate that the Old Town White Coffee Kopitiam had failed us badly, another restaurant a la "coffee shop" style with almost exactly the same name, managed to hop onto our list of delicious foodie for all... And they are the Ipoh Old Town Restaurant at Taman Danau Desa, off Old Klang Road!



Haha. Noticed the similarity to their names? But thank goodness they are totally different! Superhero S' sis, Winnie recommended this place to us because she and her colleagues often frequent there for lunch. And since she gave this place a thumbs up, as she did when she first introduced Boon Boon Cafe to us, I definitely trust her taste! Haha. :p



Okay, so we went there for lunch on a fine weekday afternoon and the place was already packed. Luckily, we still found a nice seat. Phew! I noticed even their decor is quite similar to Kopitiam's. A quick glance at their menu reveals that this Ipoh Old Town is more like a true blue Chinese cafe style of food and you can find almost everything on their menu!




In fact, it was so extensive, it took us both quite a while to actually digest what's on the menu. But since Superhero S is still struggling with a persistent sore throat at that time, she couldn't deal with anything fried or spicy. So what to do? Better just order their signature Ipoh Sar Hor Fun. Haha. But on the other hand, Superhero W settled for their Curry Noodles (to make me jealous!) *evil....*




For drinks, both of us went for their Cincau since it has got this cooling attribute to combat the horrificly uncertain weather outside.

And then, our foodie arrived. This is Superhero S' Ipoh Sar Hor Fun...




OH...Very big bowl and it sure looks good! At least this time around, I can't say that I can count the number of chicky slices around because this bowl is flooded generously with chicky bits! OH...and just look at their prawn! So big... and it's so fresh as well...! Not bad, not bad at all. 100 times better than the Kopitiam's! *super grin*




Superhero W's Curry Noodles arrived soon after...




The curry's colour is absolutely beautiful...And merely judging from its looks, I know this one is going to be a really hot deal! Haha. They actually complimented the dish with so many ingredients - from the brinjal, tau fu pok, tau kee ... all the way to so many chicky pieces!!! Now THIS is what I call a decent bowl of Curry Noodles mah.... *wink wink*




And best of all, their curry is really the thick kind. Not those diluted watery type! Another thumbs up! Haha. So now, the two superheroes have once again discovered another yummylicious place to makan in Taman Desa. No wonder this restaurant is so flooded with people during lunch time... Good business = Good food! :p


P/S: Just a reminder, this place is classified under non-halal okay? They do serve porky as well... and one more thing, we are so sorry for being missing in action over the last 2 days. Too busy saving people here and there lah! Haha. *wink wink* :p

Fabulous food at Boon Boon Cafe, Taman Desa

Thanks to a tip off from Superhero S' sister, Winnie, the two superheros flew over to Boon Boon Cafe at Taman Danau Desa, off Old Klang Road for a culinery feast! Haha. :p




If you've been to Taman Danau Desa, you would realize that this place is very very resort-like, if you get what I mean here. Lotsa tall trees, the entire place seems nicely shaded by beautiful tree canopies and it's always windy here. Haha. No, I'm not exaggerating! *grins*

So Boon Boon Cafe is a corner lot cafe that is literally surrounded by many trees. Nice huh. Let me give you a look from where we're seated.




We actually went there twice over a short span of time really. Because the food there is simply excellent. Not too pricey, and the ambience is just perfecto. You can choose to be seated outside when the weather's not emitting ridiculous heat rays, or be seated inside the cafe, where the light's a little dimmer, there's a nice breeze from the air-con, and the seats are comfy and all.




For the first trip there, Superhero W ordered their Sweet & Sour Chicken Rice...




While Superhero S ordered their Claypot Loh Shu Fun... There's just this thing about loh shu fun that I cannot seem to resist! Haha. :p





The Sweet & Sour Chicky Rice was delicious! I've never been a fan of this Chinese dish but the ones they serve here was really really nice! I helped myself to Superhero's meal, really! Haha. But on the other hand, my Claypot Loh Shu Fun wasn't exactly like how I expected it to be. I was thinking SS2 Murni's version but instead it tasted pretty sweet. Yeah, sweet! *puzzled*

Pretty strange huh. But the weird thing is, the more you eat it, the better it actually tastes! It's probably an acquired taste I suppose. Not everyone will like it. But since I didn't want to waste it, I whacked everything and overall, it's okay. Not as bad as it seemed.

And then on our second trip there, Superhero W wanted to go Western and ordered their Black Pepper Chicken Chop. Here's a look.




And Superhero S stayed true to Chinese dishes and opted for their Pan Mee. It's been staying put in my mind since I last saw babe eating her bowl of yummy Pan Meen over at Balakong just recently. Haha. You're such an influence lah, babe... *wink wink*




The Chicken Chop was, in simple words, superb! Very big portion and the chicky was really crispy!! If only their black pepper sauce could've been a little more spicier, then there would be more kick! And the Pan Mee? Awesome ah... Cannot handle! Reminds me of the last time when I ate the super best Pan Mee at Seri Kembangan... Yummy!! :p

Oh gosh, this is turning out to be a really long post eh. Haha. Bear with me, there's still the drinks. Fabulous drinks. Let me show you this!




Beautiful right?? Lookie lookie like some luminous drink huh! Alien rite?? Haha. It's actually Mint Tea, really. Very cool and refreshing indeed. There's also their Watermelon juice which tasted pretty fresh and original really.




And not forgetting the Camomile Tea which actually came in this package!




Cute hoh. Just look at the little jug carrying honey inside! Camomile with Honey, now that's a first for me. Usually other cafes would only give us normal sugar, but honey? WOW... very generous indeed! I like.... *super grin*

All in all, you can almost find any kind of food on Boon Boon Cafe's extensive menu. We've still not tried many other selections, but based on both of our trips so far, the food there is really tasty! Thumbs up... :p

A little Fishy Porridge and Meiji Hello Panda

A couple of weeks ago when Superhero S wasn't feeling well, nothing beats a little Fishy Porridge to get the body up and running again. Well, since she wasn't in a condition to cook, and since there weren't any fishy bits in the fridge, she went for a lunch date instead with her sister Winnie at Tasty Recipe Restaurant.




Yeah...remember Tasty Recipe? It's the one located at Taman Danau Desa, off Old Klang Road. Since there weren't many foodie choices for a sick person (no heaty food, no fry fry, not spicy food, etc.!) the only thing that fits best on the menu is their Fishy Porridge. No objections. Haha. I have this fetish for porridge! :p

Winnie ordered their Seaweed Fish Paste Rice Noodles, which I had ordered previously, which came in such a large portion that it truly frightened me for good. I couldn't make myself to order it anymore... Haha. Nah... just kidding! *wink wink*






OH and here comes my Fishy Porridge!




The Fishy Porridge actually came in the same size as Winnie's Fish Paste Rice Noodles... I seriously thought I couldn't finish it. But somehow, after a lot of talking, and all the time feeding myself bit by bit, I actually finished the porridge! Am I getting fatter or something? Haha. :p




Very delicious. Simple fishy porridge, but I like it. And they were really really generous with the fishy bits too. There were lots of them! Nice....

Oh, and not forgetting, after the meal, Superhero W came by and we flew to the nearest convenience store to get...



...Meiji Hello Panda!! Haha. Okay. It looks a little kiddish, but what the heck! Haha. It's yummy... And here's Superhero S opening up the wrapper.

We chose the strawberry flavour because Superhero S loves strawberry. And besides, it's best not to take chocolate. Heaty mah... *grins*

Delicious Ipoh Hor Fun at DDP Food Court

Since the day we saw KY eating his yummylicious Soo Kee Ipoh Hor Fun at PJ Seapark, we've been desperately trying to find the opportunity to make our way there. But just before we try Soo Kee, we'd thought it would be a good idea to look around Taman Desa for any good Ipoh Hor Fun too. Haha.

And so, we ventured to DDP Food Court, a monstrous foodie area located right next to the Shell station in Taman Danau Desa, off Old Klang Road. We're not usually a fan of food courts, because we thought that good food has to be sold exclusively in their own shops, not sharing tenancy.

A bit of a misconception there I suppose. Because we actually found a pretty good Ipoh Hor Fun stall over at DDP! Haha. Superhero S immediately flew to the uncle selling the hor fun and ordered a bowl of hor fun topped with additional steamed chicken.

The bowl of Hor Fun arrived at our table shortly after we were both comfortably seated in this airy food court. The first thing I did was to taste the soup. Hwahhh.... Not bad uh. It has this rather distinctive yet subtle prawn taste to it that is absolutely delicious. Not sure if it's meant to have this prawn taste but I sure don't mind its presence in my soup!

The uncle sure did gave me lotsa steamed chicky pieces. Priced at RM5 (or was it RM5.50) with that additional chicky pieces, I would say it's reasonably priced.

Superhero W decided to go for something entirely different with his Special Chicken Chop Rice. I don't actually have this appetite for Fried Chicken in the morning but this one is really really appetizing! The chicken chop is really crispy and flavourful.... But the rice is just rice lah. Haha. There's also a scoopful of coleslaw to complement the dish.

Judging from the endless stream of crowd pouring in, the other stalls in this food court must be pretty good too. Ohhh... can't wait to try the rest of them!! Haha.. :p

The Famous Fish Paste Bee Hoon (Yesss...I found it!)

On one beautiful Sunday morning, the two superheroes managed to rise and shine as early as 8.00 a.m. to have their beautiful breakfast to set the pace for a beautiful day ahead! And thank goodness Superhero S lives just a stone's throw away from delicious breakfast at Taman Danau Desa. Yummmmm...



Restoran Ho A One Seafood Steamboat is very famous for their Fish Head Bee Hoon. I know it's contradicting to its name. Should these guys be selling steamboat?? Haha. That's what they do at night actually. The crowd comes pouring in from early morning right till noon non-stop and that's how the crowd's usually going to be throughout the week. Yes! Their business is THAT good.


We wanted to try their signature Fish Head Bee Hoon but later changed our mind because we weren't really fish head fans after all. So, better go for their Fish Paste Bee Hoon or Yu Wat instead.



OMG. This is exactly the Yu Wat that I've been hunting high and low for! Oh how I've missed you!!! Haha. The last time I tasted yet another famous authentic Yu Wat is in Seri Kembangan when I was still in my uni days a couple of years back. The one at Seri Kembangan too is packed to the brim. *grins*



And I love restaurants that are packed because it serves as an indicator that the food must be GOOD! Haha. But we ordered 2 bowls of Fish Paste Bee Hoon, priced at RM6.50 per bowl. Thinking that it's expensive?


Oh NO. In fact when the large bowl of Fish Head Bee Hoon arrived at our table, we were so happy to see so many fish paste swimming happily in our soup!! OMG!! There's 6 of them. No..I mean 7! No... it should be 8! Haha. All big big ones!! :p



The jumbo fish paste and the amount of it is enough to justify its price. Tastes very homemade indeed! And the soup is really incredible...!!! No strong taste from the milk as the ginger and salty vegetable (or at least I think so) have brought out such strong flavours, leaving it only with a slight hint of milky taste.

Very very nice indeed! Oh, just a reminder, these folks are closed on Mondays. The restaurant is located at a corner lot amongst the shoplots at Taman Danau Desa, off Old Klang Road. If you know your way around Kuchai Lama, Old Klang Road or Seputeh, this area shouldn't be difficult to find. *wink*
