Because it is SO often that Superhero W moves around meeting Superhero S for lunch using taxis, this is me bringing you tips on the 5 things you should know about Taxi Drivers in KL.
1) Back seat? OR front seat?
When you decide to sit at the front seat right beside the driver, it's a cue to the driver that you are open for chats. BUT if in actual fact you are in a foul mood and don't wish to have people talking to you, just sit down at back, avoid all eye contact, mumble your destination and zip up. Let's hope the driver gets the hint.
2) Bring a map or an address
PLEASE bring an address of the place you want to go if you are not sure where it is. Even if you know where is the place, try not to sleep or get busy with your PDA and let the driver find his own way there. Guide him so that you won't have to pay extra bucks if the driver decides to rip you off with a long route.
3) If you want to talk, test the taxi driver first
Even taxi drivers have got their own moods. Perhaps the customer before you pissed him off badly, or that he is so hungry, you'll never know. So, it would be good to test their mood first with simple ice-breakers like, "Wah, so hot huh today?"
Make sure you pause and listen for the reply before you start yakking away. If he answers, "mm hmm.." and drops silent, it's not such a good idea to talk. BUT if he answers something like, "Yup, so hot lah nowadays. Yesterday also hot like this, but in the evening sure will rain one", then it's a GREEN light to chat.
4) Always monitor the taxi meter
Remember to keep your eyes on that meter to avoid getting cheated by the driver. Some drivers may want to take advantage of you when you loosen up and start getting all chattery with him.
5) Pay with small notes
The taxi drivers don't always have a small change. So you can forget about paying using the RM50 note or even the RM100 note for a RM5 trip. Unless you're feeling all charitable and mention "keep the change", they will not let you go. Otherwise, you will have to get ready to sleep in the taxi lah. Heehhehe.
Hope it helps!

Why People aged 60-70 still drive Taxi?
I wonder why this kind of situation happen in our community nowadays. Why can't they have a better rest at home when they're at this kind of age?
Almost everyday, I will take a cab to have lunch with Superhero S at Pulau (see our related post) And I would always look at their Taxi Permit while talking to them.. Because when we talk to someone we also need to know a simple background about them ( I just can't simply talk :) )
I've always wanted to ask them why they still have to drive taxi around KL ( the busiest place ever ) rather than rest at their house and play with their grandchildren. But I couldn't. Sometimes I just answer for myself ... Oh, they are bored and need to do something to kill time..
But just now, I took a cab whose driver is 70 years old !!! What the hell is the world becoming? Why didn't their children take care of them? After witnessing this, I always pray and hope that my future life will not be like them and if I can, I want to save them all from living in that kind of situation..

Wah! Traffic jam still got time to buy Nescafe ais!!
Oh yeah..haha! We wanted to tell you this amazing story 3 days ago when KL was supposedly flooded, which eventually caused one of the greatest traffic jams ever in KL!
Superhero S got out from her office at 6.10pm and drove to this road across her office...
One hour later, at 7.10pm, her car had just moved barely 200m from where she was in the first place! *Gasp! OMG!
Nearly dying in the car, Superhero W came to the rescue and took over from there...
Another 15 minutes later, we arrived at the junction (Oh! Finally....!) that allows us to turn into Jalan Tun Razak. All along, we've been travelling at a straight road which should've just been barely 1 minute of drive from Superhero S's office.
Well, at the junction, there's this mamak stall at the side of the road. This taxi driver who was also stuck in the jam rite in front of our car, suddenly got out & so fashionably abandoned his taxi there and then! OH MY GOD!
So selamba... My hero...!
Haha...well, this hero bought what looked like Nescafe ais bungkus and again so fashionably got back into his taxi about 10 - 15 minutes later...And you know what?
Nobody moved an inch..!! The traffic was at a standstill! haha..
Cheers! To the champion taxi driver and to the traffic jam in KL! :p
